Did you get caught in the rain this afternoon? Do you feel like you're coming down with the flu? Make yourself one of these natural teas and beat the flu!
1) The classic: ginger, lemon and honey
Ginger is simply a wonderful root. Its characterful flavor isn't only used in baking or some Asian dishes: it's also an excellent flu reliever. Preparing this tea is super easy and will help clear your respiratory tract and comfort your body. Buy a good piece of ginger, wash it, and peel it thoroughly. It's best to grate it, but you can also dice it and bring it to a boil. In a small pot, add drinking water and the ginger and let it boil for about 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and cover to allow the flavor to concentrate. In a cup, add a tablespoon of honey and the juice of half a lemon. Serve the tea with this mixture, stir well, and drink it piping hot. It's very important to boil the water; preparing the tea in a microwave won't give the same effect. Since this combination warms your body, it's best to take a nice warm bath, put on your pajamas, and drink the tea in bed. You'll sleep like a baby and wake up free of those annoying symptoms of the onset of the flu.
2) The exotic: red tea with cinnamon
If you've already developed a fever, this infusion is perfect for you. Bring the water to a boil and add the red tea (you can get it at any tea shop). Let it boil for 5 minutes and add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon or a cinnamon stick; although you can use any cinnamon, we recommend using a cinnamon stick. Simmer for another three minutes, turn off the heat, and cover the pot. Let it steep for two or three minutes, strain it, and drink it piping hot. Note: If you suffer from high blood pressure, cinnamon may not be the best option; consult your doctor if this combination is ideal for you.
3) Pure vitamin C
Have you ever been to a health food store and seen echinacea capsules? This plant is well-known for its anti-flu properties; it's high in vitamin C and is commonly used to boost immunity. You can find the tea at any market or health food store. Making it is super easy: boil the water, add the leaves, and let the mixture simmer for 4 or 5 minutes. Cover and serve it warm. You can sweeten it with honey to taste or add a lemon peel, which will add a delicious touch.
