Eating healthy isn't just about learning the right recipes, respecting meal times, and complementing your diet with daily exercise: it's also important to have healthy options on hand when cravings strike!
Here we share three staple foods you should have in your fridge that will help you maintain a balanced and healthy diet.
1) Grated or chopped vegetables
Don't you mind eating a salad, but are too lazy to prepare it or don't have the time? On the weekend, spend half an hour washing and chopping (or grating) vegetables so you have them on hand. You can make little bags with carrot, jicama, celery, or cucumber sticks and keep them in your fridge ready to replace any unhealthy mid-afternoon craving. You can also grate carrots or jicama and have them ready to add to a sandwich or salad. Save time and forget about excuses.
2) Green leaves
Forget about washing, disinfecting, and chopping green leaves for your salad every time you cook. You can make bags with green leaves, choose a variety, and don't limit yourself to lettuce; you can use spinach, kale, arugula, or watercress to make a super-rich and healthy mix. Disinfect the leaves and store them in the refrigerator, ready to eat. It's important to drain them well after disinfecting them and add a sheet of absorbent paper to prevent moisture from accumulating.
3) Vegetable milk
If you've never tried it, we highly recommend it! Plant-based milk is also rich in protein, and there's a wide variety to suit all tastes: almond, rice, soy, maca, coconut, oat, and more!
